Enough Talk

Check out my friend, Gary Kirkendall's blog. Especially the one titled, "Engage." I've really been wanting to stop talking about what a follower of Christ looks like and start looking like one. I confess I have this tendancy to want to talk and read theology all the time. Rick McKinley had an awesome lesson on the Kingdom of God breaking in at Mars Hill. He said that the door into the kingdom, according to Jesus, was repentance. I'm trying to repent of wanting to talk all the time but not wanting to work it out into my life.

This all really hit home when a couple of my friends who are ministers on the MS Gulf Coast came to visit the other day. I secretly wanted to talk about some of the things I had been reading and thinking, but as I sat there and listened to what God was doing through their communities of faith on the coast, I had nothing to say. I wanted to talk about what they were living. I was humbled.

Some other friends of mine just returned from working down there. They kept saying the same thing. They had never seen "church" like that. No arguing, no talking, you don't have time. The need is right there in your face! No time to think, just time to respond to what others need and what God is doing in their lives. I want to experience that.
